White Ribbon Day "Benalla March Against Violence" - Thursday 24
On Thursday 24th November, the 7th annual, "Benalla Walk Against Violence" will be held to coincide with White Ribbon Day.
We will be assembling for the march from 11.15 am at the Benalla Mural and then leaving at 11.30 am to march across the bridge to the Rocket Park where there will be a free sausage sizzle, speeches and the opportunity to sign "The Oath ".
Family Violence in Benalla is a serious problem, 5th in the State out of 79 LGAs for Family Incidents reported to the Police and 1st in the State where children are present. We have been working hard to continue to raise community awareness of the problem and empower and support women and children to report family incidents to the Police.
Come and support this great event and help reduce Family Violence in our community.

What is White Ribbon?
White Ribbon is Australia's only national, male led Campaign to end men's violence against women.
Why is the work of White Ribbon important?
Intimate partner violence is the most common type of violence against women, affecting 30 per cent of women worldwide, according to the 2013 World Health Organization report:
Australia is not immune and in Benalla we are working to get local businesses, community groups and individual community members engaged to become leaders and to drive change in our community.
White Ribbon Day
White Ribbon Day is observed each year on the 25th November, with the white ribbon as its iconic symbol. In Benalla White Ribbon Day is commemorated with an annual White Ribbon Day Community March to take a public stand against family violence and for participants to take the oath:
'I swear never to commit,
excuse or remain silent about violence against women,
this is my oath.'
