White Ribbon Day 2012
On Saturday 24th December, seventy five local people gave up their time to promote White Ribbon Day in Benalla. Led by three local drummers from the Rose City Band, the parade marched from the Drill Hall, across the bridge and through the Lakeside Market before finishing with speeches at the Benalla Foreshore.
Guest speaker this year was Chris Thorne, well known local community member and proud Aboriginal who told the crowd how important it was for the community to get behind this cause, especially men. He made an impassioned plea for strong men to stand up and be leaders of change in our community.
The ceremony finished with everyone taking the oath: I swear never to commit, excuse or remain silent about violence against women, this is my oath.
