Works well under way
IT’S a hive of activity at Benalla Health as major improvement works around the health service get under way.
Following a Victorian Government grant of nearly $4.4 million, planning is in hand for the construction of a new wing in the Morrie Evans aged care facility, a new defibrillator monitor, a portable ultrasound and upgrading of IT.
Chief Executive Officer Janine Holland said Morrie Evans Wing residents are very much looking forward to moving into their renovated bedrooms and new ensuites.
“This work will vastly improve resident amenity and privacy whilst at the same time create a safer workplace for all staff,” she said.
When finished, the facility will have 30 one-bed rooms complete with an ensuite each.
Works are already under way converting some rooms to two beds each, but the new funding will mean that will now be superseded by single-bed rooms.
Also under way is a revamp of the Community Rehabilitation Centre at Benalla Health, thanks to the generosity of the community (see annual appeal story below).
Ms Holland said staff, residents and clients had all adapted well to the building works.
“I think we are able to see the long-term benefits far outweigh any short-term inconvenience which may be caused as a result of these works taking place,” she said.
She said it was vitally important that Benalla Health continued to offer great services to its community and this included modern facilities which led the way in patient comfort.
“An important consideration of this work has also been maximising our staff efficiency and providing them with a great environment in which to work as we continue to look to attract high-calibre staff to our health service,” Ms Holland said.
