CEO Blog, July, 2017

This will be a regular Blog from Benalla Health's Chief Executive Officer Janine Holland. We welcome feedback from our community and remind people that we are always keen to hear how we can improve our services.

Benalla Health CEO Janine Holland shares her update highlighting the achievements of the organisation.

As we welcome the new financial year, I would like to start by sincerely thanking our Finance and Accounting team for their incredible efforts to close off the financial year.

Benalla Health has achieved very pleasing results in 2016/2017 which is a credit to all of our dedicated staff. Some highlights include:

  • Strategic partnerships being strengthened and this important work will continue in 2017/18. Theatre staff have worked very hard to deliver an outstanding Ophthalmology service for GV Health clients and surgical services for people on Northeast Health Wangaratta’s surgical waitlist.

  • Excellent results from the Victorian Healthcare Experience Survey which validates the exemplary care that has been provided by our staff to the community we are privileged to serve. Benalla Health being registered with the National Disability Insurance Agency. An Action Plan has been developed to support clients once the National Disability Insurance Scheme commences on the 31st October 2017. We are very much looking forward to providing this service to our community. Our refurbished Community Rehabilitation Centre will be completed towards the end of October and it will enable us to provide exemplary care in a state of the art facility.

  • Work continuing to further develop the partnership with Albury Wodonga Health Mental Health services. We are committed to implementing Telehealth services for Mental Health clients who may present to our Urgent Care Centre and /or Community Health programs. The Rainbow eQuality guide being reviewed by the Cultural Diversity and Consumer Committee. An Action Plan has been developed and approved. This committee will monitor the implementation of the Action Plan.

  • The new Consumer Engagement Strategy 2016 - 2020 being aligned with the Strategic Plan 2016 – 2020. The Cultural Diversity and Consumer committee endorsed the new plan at their February 2017 meeting. The Board also approved the plan at their March 2017 meeting.

  • The Waste Committee continuing to meet each quarter. Implementation of the stage 2 solar panels project has resulted in a significant reduction in our electricity usage. At the 30th April 2017 Benalla Health recorded a 14% decrease in usage from the prior year period.

The achievements of Benalla Health during the 2016/2017 year would not have been possible without the dedicated commitment of all our staff, the medical workforce and our highly valued volunteers.
