 Operational Director - Continuum of Care

Position Status: Permanent Hours (1.0 EFT)

Classification: RN G6 Ddon (ZE6)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Operational Director – Continuum of Care (ODCC) is recognised as a key member of Benalla Health’s Clinical Services Leadership Team.

Operational Director - Performance Improvement

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Operational Director – Performance Improvement (DPI) is recognised as a key member of Benalla Health’s Clinical Services Leadership Team.

The ODPI supports the values of the organisation through their commitment to achieving a shared vision, mission and strategic goals; their effective management and oversight of performance improvement services; and their strong and inspired leadership in championing, monitoring and advancing performance improvement initiatives. Simultaneously the incumbent supports excellence in clinical governance and clinical risk management; facilitates advancement and innovation in both models of service and workforce development; and, provides oversight of organisational compliance with quality standards, provision of a comprehensive staff training calendar and suite of professional development resources, and of the facilitation of educational and other performance improvement partnerships, collaborations and agreements. The DPI is accountable for the education, research and quality services budget including reconciliation of training and quality related grants; and in collaboration with Human Resources, implements strategies to support workforce capacity, capability and consistency in practice.

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Clinical Services and in collaboration with the senior leaders within the directorate, the ODPI has responsibility for the development, provision and advancement of Benalla Health’s Performance Improvement programs and services including leading and facilitating the hardwiring excellence coaching program and the maintenance of quality improvement databases and reporting.

The Finance Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Finance and Corporate Services team to deliver quality and timely financial services to the organisation.

Community Health Nurse - Healthy Communities

Position Status: Temporary Hours (0.4 EFT) - End contract date 4/7/2021

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Community Health Nurse provides health promotion activities with reference to the organisational Health Promotion plan. This role is involved in planning, implementation and evaluation of programs and community awareness campaigns. Health education is provided to target groups and individuals.

The Community Health Nurse liaises and provides support to community self health groups, with attendance and education at group meetings provided on occasion.

The Community Health Nurse collects data, and compiles reports for health and funding agencies on outcomes achieved.

  • Substantial postgraduate experience in nursing
  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications or prepared to work towards and obtain

Aboriginal Cadetship Program 

Position Status: Temporary (40 shifts available)

Classification: Dependent on skills and experience.

POSITION SUMMARY:

  • The purpose of this position is to provide the cadet with pre-graduation professional experience.
  • The cadetship program and departmental rotations will be matched to the needs of individual cadets.
  • The cadet will provide basic direct care activities and assist the registered nurse/midwife or allied health staff in accordance with the plan of care and under the supervision of a registered nurse/registered midwife or allied health team member.
  • The cadet helps provide patient-centred, family-oriented, evidence-based care within a multidisciplinary team environment, working collegially with other health professionals and under the direct supervision of a registered nurse/registered midwife or allied health team leader, to achieve the best possible outcomes for patients in their care. 

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Studying undergraduate (bachelor) nursing and/or midwifery or allied health degree
  • Demonstrated satisfactory academic results/performance
  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to the social model of care

Theatre Technician - Grade 1 to 3

Position Status: Casual

Classification: Theatre Technician Grade 1-3 (HH18-HH20)

POSITION SUMMARY:

An Operating Theatre Technician is responsible for the provision of safe and high quality patient positioning and general technical services to assist the Operating Theatre personnel.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assisting nurses in the set-up of the Operating Theatre for each case, including table attachments, electrosurgical unit, suction apparatus, tower assembly, microscope, tourniquet, plaster equipment and any other equipment deemed necessary.
  • Assisting nurses to position patient safely in collaboration with anaesthetists, surgeons and nursing staff and in accordance with Benalla Health Worksafe policies.
  • Perform safe and efficient patient transfer from theatre trolley to operating table and return on completion of surgery.
  • Assist with patient preparation for surgery e.g. pre-operative shave, holding limbs for surgeon to apply skin preparation and sterile drapes, correct placement of electrosurgical patient return electrode and safe tourniquet application.
  • Transport of equipment to and from the theatre department as required i.e. microscope, image intensifier. Be able to operate all equipment effectively and efficiently and be able to troubleshoot issues when required.
  • Conduct general maintenance of equipment so as to ensure a clean, safe and efficient environment for patients and staff. Report any malfunctioning equipment and remove from use.

  • Coordinating the midwifery and allied health care that is provided to women.

  • Counselling women and providing appropriate health education.
  • Liaising with the Midwifery team members to communicate changes in a woman’s condition/progress and any other situations/circumstances as they arise.

Classification: RN ANUM Yr 1 - 2 (YW11-YW12) 

Benalla Health is seeking suitably qualified and experienced Associate Nurse Unit Managers to join our Urgent Care Centre.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Mentor and lead the nursing staff to provide high quality care to patients, and supervise specialist care delivered by other staff
  • Coordinate specialised aspects of care 
  • Act as an advocate for patients and their families, ensuring their opinions are heard and their rights are respected
  • Counsel patients and provide appropriate health education
  • Carry out day-to-day management of the unit in the absence of the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM)
  • Act as a Grade 5 After Hours Coordinator when required in absence of an ADON
  • Assist the NUM in allocating appropriately skilled nurses to provide patient care
  • Assisting the NUM in staffing management including preparation of rosters, recruitment, staff appraisals, staff development and education, and OH&S
  • Assist the NUM with budgets and corrective actions
  • Assess the need for training and education of other staff and deliver specialist clinical teaching and supervision to nurses, health care staff and students as required

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Achievement of Registered Nurse competencies in accordance with criteria as prescribed by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA)
  • Demonstrate well-developed communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrate a high level of skill in clinical decision making – in particular with problem identification and solution.
  • Strong leadership skills demonstrated by knowledge of Human Resource policies and procedures, adaptability to workforce needs and performance management processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver excellent nursing care in accordance with BH’s philosophy, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to Quality Management and Accreditation processes.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, particularly the National Health reform, National Standards and Aged Care Standards.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to work independently of others.
  • Ability to maintain and improve clinical care standards.
  • Ability to act as mentor or preceptor to other less experienced nurses, including students and graduate nurses. 
  • Ability to represent as a patient advocate.
  • Demonstrated skill with analysis and interpretation of clinical data.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Information Technology.

Speech Pathologist

Position Status: Temporary Hours - (1.0 EFT) from 21/09/20 - 03/01/22

Classification:  Speech Path GR 2 YR1-4 (VW1- VW4)

Position Summary:

Working as part of a multidisciplinary Allied Health team, this position is responsible for providing high quality speech pathology care to patients / clients referred to the service, caseload comprises in the main pre–school aged children and adults with acquired communication disorders;

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identifying client needs and service priorities;

  • Planning, implementing and evaluating screening programs to detect communication disorders;

  • In conjunction with the Community Health Service Team - assisting in planning, implementing and evaluating health promotion / illness prevention activities relevant to Speech Pathology Practice;

  • Coordination of speech pathology care provided to patients / clients according to assessed needs;

  • Counselling patients / clients and providing appropriate health education;

  • Participation in health promotion activities aimed at raising community and staff awareness about communication and swallowing disorders;

  • Continually evaluates care delivery, incorporating the results of personal research or the research findings of others in the delivery of care;

  • Contributing to patient care by accepting appropriate referrals and providing communication assessment and treatment of clients. Consulting with other members of the health care/education team where necessary;

  • Maintaining accurate and concise case management records for patients / clients;

  • Contributing to a creative, productive and safe environment for patients, clients, visitors and staff by demonstrating knowledge / attending training in / applying the documented policies and procedures relating to: the provision of speech pathology care; internal and external emergencies; infection control; occupational health and safety and safe work practice.

  • Participates in: the supervision and instruction of students and the in-service instruction ofother health care staff when appropriate;

  • Contributing to the development of services by critically assessing new developments and research based change in speech pathology - where appropriate assists in the design, implementation and evaluation of new procedures, processes, methods and supplies / equipment, participating in meetings and projects where appropriate.This includes participation as required in quality and accreditation related activities;

  • Complies in with the relevant Commonwealth / State legislative and non-legislative standards governing the profession, including those prescribed by the Speech Pathology Association of Australia.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Relevant Bachelor degree and Membership with the Speech Pathology Association of Australia.

  • Experience in Community Health or other equivalent field;

  • Proven ability to work effectively within a multi disciplinary environment;

  • Experience with therapeutic, educative and support group work.

  • Proven ability to work independently

  • Proven ability to supervise students

  • Proven ability to liaise with internal and external customers at all levels;

  • Proven ability to prioritise workloads and meet demanding work deadlines; and

  • Proven ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

  • Demonstrated well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
