Social Worker/Generalist Counsellor 

Position Status: Permanent (0.4 FTE) 

Classification: Social Worker Grade 2 (Qualified) (SC21 – SC24)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Social Work/Counselling Team operates from the Benalla Community Care Centre and provides Social Work / Counselling support within Community Health and Health Independence Programs, Acute Hospital services and Residential Aged Care.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Bachelor of Social Work
  • Registration with the Australian Association of Social Workers
  • Experience in a hospital, community health service or other equivalent health field
  • Proven ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage clients with complex needs, crisis intervention, and document appropriately
  • Experience in developing and conducting support group work/sessions
  • High level organisational skills and computer literacy

Personal Care Worker

Physiotherapist

Position Status: Permanent (1.0 FTE)

Classification: Grade 1 or Grade 2

POSITION SUMMARY:

Working as part of a multi-disciplinarily team and in accordance with the objectives of the hospital and Physiotherapy / Occupational Therapy Department, this Grade 1 Physiotherapy position is required to co-ordinate, deliver and evaluate effective physiotherapy services within Benalla Health and other contracted service sites.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Management of all referred clients from general inpatients, outpatients, aged care units and other contracted service sites
  • Liaison with other members of the patient management team, including medical officers, nurse unit managers and other allied health professionals
  • Education of nursing staff to carry out appropriate treatment plans to achieve overall physiotherapy goals
  • Sound ability to carry out physiotherapy assessments and choose appropriate treatment techniques
  • Ability to perform all electrotherapy techniques within safety guidelines
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment
  • Participate in physiotherapy student placements under the direction of the Senior Physiotherapist
  • To assist in planning, implementing and supervising physiotherapy intervention to referred inpatients and outpatients
  • To participate in educational programs when required.  To assist with the supervision of and provide an educative environment for physiotherapy students on placement
  • To attend relevant meetings when required, representing the Physiotherapy Department.  Ensure relevant information is presented at clinical meetings as required and requested
  • To participate in the organisation’s Health Promotion plan and speak at Community Groups / Sessions as required
  • To provide the required data pertinent to the operations of the Physiotherapy Department
  • Actively participate in quality improvement activities and contribute towards organisation-wide accreditation compliance as required

Home Nursing & Palliative Care Service Supervisor

Position Status: Permanent (1.0 EFT)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Home Nursing and Palliative Care Service Supervisor is responsible for the provision of high quality and safe nursing care to allocated clients including providing health education, health promotion, assisting clients with goal setting and achievement and working with other health care providers to ensure care is person centred, consistent and coordinated.

The Home Nursing and Palliative Care Service Supervisor will lead home nursing and palliative care intake and the daily allocation including delegation of care and supervision and / or management of client lists. They will monitor and foster consistency in clinical practice. They will liaise with nursing, medical and allied health staff as well as any relevant external service providers and / or stakeholders in management and care of home nursing and palliative care clients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Proven and recent experience in clinical nursing relevant to role.
  • Demonstrated experience in building, influencing and / or leading teams including allocation of duties, clinical supervision and mentoring, shared problem solving, conflict resolution and provision of feedback.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary evidence based advanced and / or chronic, complex wound management including compression therapy.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of end of life care including palliative pain management and experience with a variety of vascular access devices.
  • Validated proficiency in the use of information management systems and programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, commitment to and participation in quality systems and processes including monitoring outcomes against relevant quality standards, data collection and analysis and meeting timelines and accountabilities against key performance indicators.

Fit Tester

Position Status: Temporary 0.4 FTE (3 month contract)

Classification:  Grade 3 (HS3)

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Fit Tester: Respiratory Protection Equipment (RPE) provides respiratory protection to Benalla Health staff who work in high risk areas of the health service.  The protection is provided via a fitting and testing process of selected and approved face masks which are designed to protect the wearer and prevent the inhalation of contaminated air.  

The Fit Tester will be responsible to undertake the fit testing procedure with relevant staff to ensure such staff are able to wear masks which provide full protection from respiratory hazards during the course of their work.  It is recommended staff are fitted with at least three different masks which provide full protection.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • An understanding of Benalla Health and the services offered by the health service
  • Initiative to manage and resolve issues in unforeseen situations
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions to achieve positive outcomes
  • Accurate and efficient data entry experience, with excellent computer skills and the ability to use Microsoft Excel
  • Demonstrated communication and negotiation skills with an ability to hold effective and engaging conversations at all levels
  • Demonstrated communication skills in choice of language when providing feedback

  • Conduct general maintenance of equipment so as to ensure a clean, safe and efficient environment for patients and staff. Report any malfunctioning equipment and remove from use.

Associate Nurse Unit Manager, Urgent Care Centre

Position Status: Permanent (Full-time and Part-time opportunities available)

Benalla Health is seeking suitably qualified and experienced Associate Nurse Unit Managers to join our Urgent Care Centre.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Mentor and lead the nursing staff to provide high quality care to patients, and supervise specialist care delivered by other staff
  • Coordinate specialised aspects of care 
  • Act as an advocate for patients and their families, ensuring their opinions are heard and their rights are respected
  • Counsel patients and provide appropriate health education
  • Carry out day-to-day management of the unit in the absence of the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM)
  • Act as a Grade 5 After Hours Coordinator when required in absence of an ADON
  • Assist the NUM in allocating appropriately skilled nurses to provide patient care
  • Assisting the NUM in staffing management including preparation of rosters, recruitment, staff appraisals, staff development and education, and OH&S
  • Assist the NUM with budgets and corrective actions
  • Assess the need for training and education of other staff and deliver specialist clinical teaching and supervision to nurses, health care staff and students as required

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Achievement of Registered Nurse competencies in accordance with criteria as prescribed by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA)
  • Demonstrate well-developed communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrate a high level of skill in clinical decision making – in particular with problem identification and solution.
  • Strong leadership skills demonstrated by knowledge of Human Resource policies and procedures, adaptability to workforce needs and performance management processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver excellent nursing care in accordance with BH’s philosophy, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to Quality Management and Accreditation processes.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, particularly the National Health reform, National Standards and Aged Care Standards.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to work independently of others.
  • Ability to maintain and improve clinical care standards.
  • Ability to act as mentor or preceptor to other less experienced nurses, including students and graduate nurses.

Speech Pathologist

Position Status: Temporary Hours - (1.0 EFT) from 21/09/20 - 03/01/22

Classification:  Speech Path GR 2 YR1-4 (VW1- VW4)

Position Summary:

Working as part of a multidisciplinary Allied Health team, this position is responsible for providing high quality speech pathology care to patients / clients referred to the service, caseload comprises in the main pre–school aged children and adults with acquired communication disorders;

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identifying client needs and service priorities;

  • Planning, implementing and evaluating screening programs to detect communication disorders;

  • In conjunction with the Community Health Service Team - assisting in planning, implementing and evaluating health promotion / illness prevention activities relevant to Speech Pathology Practice;

  • Coordination of speech pathology care provided to patients / clients according to assessed needs;

  • Counselling patients / clients and providing appropriate health education;

  • Participation in health promotion activities aimed at raising community and staff awareness about communication and swallowing disorders;

  • Continually evaluates care delivery, incorporating the results of personal research or the research findings of others in the delivery of care;

  • Contributing to patient care by accepting appropriate referrals and providing communication assessment and treatment of clients. Consulting with other members of the health care/education team where necessary;

  • Maintaining accurate and concise case management records for patients / clients;

  • Contributing to a creative, productive and safe environment for patients, clients, visitors and staff by demonstrating knowledge / attending training in / applying the documented policies and procedures relating to: the provision of speech pathology care; internal and external emergencies; infection control; occupational health and safety and safe work practice.

  • Participates in: the supervision and instruction of students and the in-service instruction ofother health care staff when appropriate;

  • Contributing to the development of services by critically assessing new developments and research based change in speech pathology - where appropriate assists in the design, implementation and evaluation of new procedures, processes, methods and supplies / equipment, participating in meetings and projects where appropriate.This includes participation as required in quality and accreditation related activities;

  • Complies in with the relevant Commonwealth / State legislative and non-legislative standards governing the profession, including those prescribed by the Speech Pathology Association of Australia.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Relevant Bachelor degree and Membership with the Speech Pathology Association of Australia.

  • Experience in Community Health or other equivalent field;

  • Proven ability to work effectively within a multi disciplinary environment;

  • Experience with therapeutic, educative and support group work.

  • Proven ability to work independently

  • Proven ability to supervise students

  • Proven ability to liaise with internal and external customers at all levels;

  • Proven ability to prioritise workloads and meet demanding work deadlines; and

  • Proven ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

  • Demonstrated well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
