Quality & Risk Coordinator

Position Status: Permanent Full-time (1.0 EFT)

Classification:  Grade 3 (HS3)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The role of the Quality & Risk Coordinator is to be responsible for developing, managing, implementing and maintaining quality projects and initiatives through effective leadership and time management.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to quality projects and initiatives in such as: incident management; quality activity data base; clinical governance activities; and, guiding document management.  

The Quality & Risk Coordinator will contribute to clinical governance ensuring project recommendations and actions comply with relevant legislation, standards and industrial agreements.

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate your expertise and leadership by both role modelling and mentoring the attributes, behaviours, knowledge and skills reflective of best clinical practice.

The Quality & Risk Coordinator will liaise with, and support the Operational Director - Performance Improvement to achieve objectives outlined in the organisation's Strategic, Clinical Services and Operational Plans.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Demonstrated experience and/or qualification in project management
  • Initiative and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Commitment to work in a team environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Healthcare systems and programs, quality standards and funding models
  • Proficiency in the use of information management systems and programs
  • Project management experience including working to timelines, data collection and analysis, accountability against key performance measures and reporting

Occupational Therapist (Grade 1)

Position Summary:

This position offers the opportunity to develop clinical and management skills within an acute, residential and community health service.  The caseload includes: orthopaedic rehabilitation, medical/surgical inpatients and outpatients, day activities centre, residential aged care, community services, CHSP and HACC-PYP and NDIS clients, and services to the Health Independence Programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES (Caseload):        

  • Plan, implement and supervise occupational therapy interventions to referred inpatients and outpatients.
  • Conduct tests to assess functional, emotional, psychological, developmental and physical capabilities.
  • Plan and direct specific therapeutic programs for individuals using vocational (jobs or careers), recreational, remedial, social and educational activities.
  • Select and design a variety of activities that improve an affected movement or function and help individuals to regain personal care skills, such as eating and dressing.
  • Assist people to gain or regain skills in social, leisure and work environments through graded individual or group therapy and activity programs.
  • Monitor the progress of individuals and assist with the coordination of an effective health team.
  • Design and modify the everyday environment of clients to allow for better access and independence.
  • Advise on the use of specialised equipment, such as home modifications, adapted kitchen utensils, wheelchairs and other assistive techniques, which help people within their environment.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Proven ability to liaise with internal and external customers at all levels

  • Clinical experience in a variety of Occupational Therapy areas, across the continuum of care

  • Experience in Microsoft Windows applications

  • Proven ability to prioritise workloads and meet demanding work deadlines

Cook (Trade Qualified)

Position Status: Permanent Full-time (1.0 EFT)

Classification:  Trade Cook (GR3)

Assist the Executive Chef as required in managing all aspects of the Food and Beverage Services.

Manage the day-to-day work staff, working at all times to support, lead and promote a cooperative team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform cooking tasks as rostered, complying with menus, recipes and work schedules.
  • Prepare, plate and present meals, and supervise others when they are performing similar tasks.
  • Supervise the work of Food Services Assistants.
  • Carry out regular audits of food stores – evaluating stock quality, rotating stock, modifying menus to ensure use of foodstuffs - carrying out actions to minimise waste of food stocks.
  • Liaise with suppliers and action routine orders.
  • Assist the Food Services Coordinator with the education, training and appraisal of staff.
  • Manage the Food Services Unit in the absence of the Food Services Coordinator if required.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Trade Cook Certificate of Cooking or relevant qualification
  • Food Safety Supervisor Certification (Health & Community Services)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment
  • Relevant cooking experience in a health setting

Lactation Consultant

In this role you will act as a resource for mothers, hospital staff, and other health professionals working with mothers and babies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Comprehensive and accurate nursing assessments of patients.
  • Identify and act on deviations from normal in the patient’s health status.
  • Develop and document a plan of care in consultation with patient and relevant others.

  • Respond to patient and/or carer educational needs.

  • Act as a resource for mothers, hospital staff, and other health professionals working with mothers and babies.
  • Participate in the formulation of breast feeding policy and assist with the implementation and evaluation of the policy.
  • Where appropriate act as an advocate for patients and their families, ensuring their opinions are heard and their rights are respected.
  • Assess the need for training and education of other staff, then deliver specialist clinical teaching and supervision to nurses, health care staff and students as required.
  • Advise and assist staff, mothers and other health workers with the management of lactation problems.
  • Develop appropriate education materials and programs on breast feeding for mothers and their families, and provide ongoing clinical education for staff.
  • Assist and support the mother in the transition from hospital to the home environment to promote successful breast feeding.
  • Participate in the organisation’s quality and accreditation programs, contributing to processes whereby the quality of care of patients is continuously improved. This includes examining own and others’ nursing and health care delivery critically, incorporating the results of personal research or the research findings of others in the delivery of care.

Physiotherapist - Grade 1 or 2

Position Status: Permanent Hours (0.7 EFT)

Classification:  Physiotherapist Grade 1 or 2, Yr 1-4

Position Summary:

Working as part of a multi-disciplinarily team and in accordance with the objectives of the hospital and physiotherapy / occupational therapy department, this Grade 2 physiotherapy position is required to co-ordinate, deliver and evaluate effective physiotherapy services within Benalla Health and other contracted service sites.

RESPONSIBILITIES:        

  • Management of all referred clients from general inpatients, outpatients, aged care units and other contracted service sites.

  • A grade 2 Physiotherapist is required to teach Physiotherapy students and perform work that requires specialist knowledge and experience in anyone of the following; neurosurgery, surgical thoracic, plastic surgery, cerebral palsy, traumatic spinal cord lesions.

  • Maybe required to act in charge of the Physiotherapy/Allied Health Department from time to time.

  • Liaison with other members of the patient management team, including medical officers, nurse unit manager and other allied health professionals.

  • Education of hospital staff to carry out appropriate treatment plans to achieve overall physiotherapy goals.

  • Attendance at relevant discharge planning or scrum meetings.

  • Appropriate recording of all physiotherapy treatment sessions in medical records.

  • Appropriate recording of statistics according to department protocols.

  • Ability to appropriately delegate tasks to Allied Health Assistants.

  • The Physiotherapist also works on secondment to other Hospitals in the area so some regular travelling is required (use of own motor vehicle).

  • Sound ability to carry out physiotherapy assessment and choose appropriate treatment techniques.

  • Ability to perform all electrotherapy techniques within safety guidelines.

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.

  • Mentor students and Grade 1 Physiotherapist as required

  • To assist in planning, implement and supervise physiotherapy intervention to referred inpatients and outpatients.

  • To participate and deliver educational programs when required.To assist with the supervision and provide an educative environment for physiotherapy students on placement.

  • To attend relevant meeting when required, representing the physiotherapy/community health department. Ensure relevant information is presented at clinical meetings as required and requested.

  • To participate in the organisations Health Promotion plan and speak at Community Groups / Sessions as required.

  • To provide the required data pertinent to the operations of the physiotherapy department.

  • Actively participate in quality improvement activities and contribute toward organisation wide accreditation compliance as required.

  • Registration with AHPRA Registration Board of Victoria

  • A degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent.

  • Consolidated experience in the field of Physiotherapy

Associate Nurse Unit Manager - Acute

Position Status: Temporary Hours - (0.6 EFT) until 31/05/21

Classification:  RN ANUM Year 1 - 2 (YW11-YW12)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) will:

  • Support nursing and midwifery services within the organisation.

  • Mentor and lead nursing staff in providing high quality nursing care to patients and supervise specialist care delivered by other staff.

  • Coordinate specialised aspects of care provided to patients on a daily basis.

  • Act as an advocate for patients and their families, ensuring their opinions are heard and their rights are respected.

  • Provide a productive, safe environment in the ward, demonstrating effective leadership.

  • In the absence of the NUM, carry out day to day management of the ward.

  • Assist the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) in allocating appropriately skilled nurses to provide patient care.

  • Assist the NUM in staffing management – preparation of rosters, selection and recruitment, staff appraisal, staff development/education, occupational health and safety and other aspects of human resources management.

  • Act as Grade 5 After Hours Coordinator as and when required in absence of a rostered ADON.

  • Maintain competence in nursing practice as measured by the Australian National Competency Standards for the Registered Nurse.

  • Contribute to the maintenance and improvement of clinical standards.

  • Assess the need for training and education of other staff and then deliver specialist clinical teaching and supervision to nurses, health care staff and students in the unit and nursing division as required.

  • Carry out research and development in the speciality.

  • Provide advisory services to appropriate committees.

  • Participate in the organisation’s quality and accreditation programs, contributing to the processes whereby the quality of care of patients and residents is continuously improved. This includes examining own and others’ nursing and health care delivery critically and incorporating the results of personal research or the research findings of others in the delivery of care.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Achievement of Registered Nurse competencies in accordance with criteria as prescribed by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA)

  • Demonstrated well-developed communication and interpersonal skills;

  • Demonstrate a high level of skill in clinical decision making – in particular with problem identification and solution.

  • Strong leadership skills demonstrated by knowledge of Human Resource policies and procedures, adaptability to workforce needs and performance management processes.

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver excellent nursing care in accordance with BH’s philosophy, policies and procedures.

  • Recency of practice in regard to Advanced Life Support skills and No Lift Policies.

  • Knowledge of and commitment to Quality Management and Accreditation processes.

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, particularly the National Health reform, National Standards and Aged Care Standards.

  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to work independently of others.

  • Ability to maintain and improve clinical care standards.

Speech Pathologist

Position Status: Temporary Hours - (1.0 EFT) from 21/09/20 - 03/01/22

Classification:  Speech Path GR 2 YR1-4 (VW1- VW4)

Position Summary:

Working as part of a multidisciplinary Allied Health team, this position is responsible for providing high quality speech pathology care to patients / clients referred to the service, caseload comprises in the main pre–school aged children and adults with acquired communication disorders;

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identifying client needs and service priorities;

  • Planning, implementing and evaluating screening programs to detect communication disorders;

  • In conjunction with the Community Health Service Team - assisting in planning, implementing and evaluating health promotion / illness prevention activities relevant to Speech Pathology Practice;

  • Coordination of speech pathology care provided to patients / clients according to assessed needs;

  • Counselling patients / clients and providing appropriate health education;

  • Participation in health promotion activities aimed at raising community and staff awareness about communication and swallowing disorders;

  • Continually evaluates care delivery, incorporating the results of personal research or the research findings of others in the delivery of care;

  • Contributing to patient care by accepting appropriate referrals and providing communication assessment and treatment of clients. Consulting with other members of the health care/education team where necessary;

  • Maintaining accurate and concise case management records for patients / clients;

  • Contributing to a creative, productive and safe environment for patients, clients, visitors and staff by demonstrating knowledge / attending training in / applying the documented policies and procedures relating to: the provision of speech pathology care; internal and external emergencies; infection control; occupational health and safety and safe work practice.

  • Participates in: the supervision and instruction of students and the in-service instruction ofother health care staff when appropriate;

  • Contributing to the development of services by critically assessing new developments and research based change in speech pathology - where appropriate assists in the design, implementation and evaluation of new procedures, processes, methods and supplies / equipment, participating in meetings and projects where appropriate.This includes participation as required in quality and accreditation related activities;

  • Complies in with the relevant Commonwealth / State legislative and non-legislative standards governing the profession, including those prescribed by the Speech Pathology Association of Australia.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Relevant Bachelor degree and Membership with the Speech Pathology Association of Australia.

  • Experience in Community Health or other equivalent field;

  • Proven ability to work effectively within a multi disciplinary environment;

  • Experience with therapeutic, educative and support group work.

  • Proven ability to work independently

  • Proven ability to supervise students

  • Proven ability to liaise with internal and external customers at all levels;

  • Proven ability to prioritise workloads and meet demanding work deadlines; and

  • Proven ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

  • Demonstrated well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
