Benalla Health provides safe, modern and person-centred surgical care for our community. Our Peri-Operative Unit contains two fully equipped operating theatres, a dedicated Day Procedure Unit (DPU) and a Central Sterilising Service Department (CSSD).  These facilities are supported by a highly skilled team of surgeons, anaesthetists and nurses.

Our Service Level

Benalla Health is recognised as a:

Level 3 peri-operative service for adults
We safely provide a wide range of common and moderately complex surgeries, including procedures that require general anaesthetic and may involve a short overnight stay

Level 2 peri-operative service for children (paediatrics)
We offer low-complexity, day-stay procedures for children aged 4 years and over, based on our credentialed scope of practice and clinical safety requirements. Procedures for younger children or children needing more complex care are referred to higher-level specialist hospitals.

If a patient requires a higher level of care at any time, we have clear, established referral pathways to specialist services at larger hospitals.

Our Pre-Admission Clinic helps you prepare for your surgery. We review your health needs, provide information, answer questions and ensure everything is in place for a safe and smooth experience.

On the Day

Our friendly peri-operative team will guide you through every step — from admission to theatre and into recovery.
You’re welcome to bring a support person, who may remain onsite during your procedure.

After Your Procedure

Most patients return home on the same day. Some procedures require an overnight stay, depending on the type of surgery and your recovery needs.
