Our maternity service provides personalised care throughout pregnancy and the early weeks of parenthood, helping women access the support, information and services they need during this important stage of life.
Our service is designed to provide continuity of care, support women's choice and help families access as much of their care as possible close to home.
Continuity of Care From a Known Midwife
When you access maternity services through Benalla Health, you will be allocated a primary midwife who will support you throughout your pregnancy journey.
Your midwife will take the time to get to know you, understand your individual needs and preferences, provide education and guidance, and help coordinate your care. Building a relationship with a known midwife helps ensure your care is personalised, consistent and centred around you and your family
Care Closer to Home
We are committed to providing as much of your maternity care as possible locally.
Many pregnancy appointments, education sessions and post-birth follow-up appointments can be accessed through Benalla Health, allowing women and families to receive care closer to home and their support networks

Every pregnancy is different, and every woman has different needs and preferences.
At Benalla Health, we support women to make informed decisions about their care and work in partnership with them throughout their maternity journey. Our goal is to ensure women have access to the information, services and support needed to make choices that are right for them and their family
Working Together With Regional Health Services
Benalla Health works closely with Northeast Health Wangaratta and Goulburn Valley Health to provide coordinated maternity care.
These partnerships help ensure women have access to a range of maternity and specialist services when required, while maintaining continuity of care and support from their Benalla Health midwife wherever possible. By working together, we can provide safe, connected and high-quality care that meets the needs of women and families across our region.
Your First Appointment
Once a referral has been received, a member of our maternity team will contact you to arrange your first appointment.
At this appointment, your midwife will:
- Discuss your health and pregnancy history
- Talk with you about your care needs and preferences
- Arrange any required tests or referrals
- Provide information about available services and supports
- Answer any questions you may have about your pregnancy journey
Looking After Your Wellbeing
Pregnancy can bring physical, emotional and social changes. Your wellbeing is an important part of your care.
As part of our service, we provide access to routine wellbeing screening and can connect women and families with additional supports and services if required.
iCope: is a digital screening tool designed to ensure every mother is provided with the right support for your mental health during pregnancy.
The midwives will send you a link to the iCope screening tool prior to your booking in appointment via SMS.
The Centre of Perinatal Excellence (COPE) is an online resource that provides support for the emotional challenges of becoming a parent.
